I’m going to be here to talk to you a little bit about that today. Before we get into it, just a quick reminder, if you’re looking for ways to get out of debt, and earn some money for your retirement, head on over to revolution ephi.com and grab yourself the Solopreneur Formula Worksheet™, which will help get you on your way.

So today’s discussion comes to us from a blogger, Victor Eduoh, and this is via the Stacked Marketer newsletter which is a fantastic newsletter that I subscribe to. The title of Victor’s post is Grammarly’s Marketing Strategy: Growing to 20+ Million Users via Content Marketing.

From The Stacked Marketer

So let me give you some of the takeaways as summarized by the Stacked Marketer. The Grammarly blog has 2100 articles on it. It’s hard to believe you could write that many articles about writing. But Grammarly has done it. They write about mostly grammar. Again, it’s kind of crazy. They’re getting you know, they’re, they’re racking up millions of searches per month. So imagine the amount of traffic that they’re driving to their website.

Now if you don’t know. Grammarly is a software as a service that does it’s sort of like a spell checker on steroids. So it will correct your grammar, your punctuation, your style, it does that in Word documents, Google Docs, email, just about anything that you have to write Grammarly will, will scan it and and and and fix it. So just to give you some idea of what Grammarly is, if you are not familiar with it.

Now, it is a very traditional content marketing funnel. So we talk about an internet and internet marketing worlds funnel can sometimes have a negative connotation is if you’re trying to force people to do something. But the idea is, it’s basic physics, you have an open, wide open top and you want to move people through a sequence as they get to know you. And the top of the funnel for most businesses, small businesses solopreneurs is content marketing.

The Power of Content Marketing

Content Marketing is this idea that you give away content of high value to build the relationship so that eventually you will ask for the sale. But you are serving your customer, your people first. So great examples of content marketing are things like blogs and podcasts and YouTube channels, things that people can get for free, but really deliver value and and it’s really about building reputation. So Grammarly is definitely an example of a top of funnel content marketing.

Now, to give you some idea of what this translates to, as far as business revenue goes, Grammarly has been around for about 10 years, they’re up to 20 million daily active users, and the company has a $1 billion valuation. All right, so that sounds like a lot of internet jargon, internet marketing jargon, what does that mean to you? What does that mean to us?

If we’re sort of sitting here trying to figure out how are we gonna make money for retirement? Because we don’t have decades to save it. So we’re gonna have to earn some of it to get there. What does this mean? Well, I think what it means is that the approach you have to take is a slow and steady one, I would look I would consider a 10 to 15 year plan. And not a business plan. I’m talking about a 10 to 15 year plan to reach your ideal situation of financial independence.

Building Connections

And the way you get there is you start by building an audience through very traditional content marketing. To me, I don’t see that as a negative at all. I know like I said, it gets roped into the internet marketing lexicon. But I think content marketing is really the most powerful way to build connections with people with your potential customers, and to really help them and I hope that’s what I’m doing here.

Again, I’m walking the walk. This podcast is traditional content marketing. You may never purchase anything from me while I mean you can even now I don’t even have anything to purchase right now. But I’m just delivering value. I’m showing up here every day. I’m sharing useful information and things that I’ve learned with you and hopefully starting that relationship building a reputation. And at some point when I have something you’ll know me and if you think it’s worthwhile to purchase my product or service. You will because I will have provided you so much value leading up to that.

So that’s the approach. Think about content marketing. There’s some great resources online. There’s a ton of information on how to do it, but don’t over overthink it. If you’re considering you know, your idea for your, your side hustle, your side job, your small income earner to get you started, think about ways to test the market with content marketing. And it really is great because it serves two purposes.

It’s going to, it’s going to help you learn how to serve the audience and what they want. And at the same time, you’re going to become a trusted voice in their ear or on their screen.

Hopefully you found that useful. I will be back tomorrow on Wednesday for the second installment of the Book of the Month Club, featuring THE ONE THING  by Gary Keller, you’re not going to want to miss this one. I will see you tomorrow.
