In this new episode of The RevolutionFI Podcast, Tim and Jim Kukral discuss the power of the abundance mindset.
“So, the question is this: How can 50+ folks like us, honest and hard-working, how do we manage our current responsibilities and still plan for retirement? 401ks alone won’t be enough and we don’t have 40 years to save, so how do we leverage our experience and wisdom to gain financial independence? That is the question, and this podcast will give you the answers. My name is Tim, and welcome to the Revolution. The RevolutionFI podcast.”

TGIF! Welcome back to RevolutionFI Podcast. Happy to have you here with me on a Friday morning. Got Jim Kukral with me again. How are you doing this morning, Jim?
I’m doing good except you were supposed to bring me an Egg McMuffin.
Maybe next time.
Not maybe. Yes. The answer is yes.
The answer is yes. Next time, Egg McMuffin.
I’m excited today. We’ve got the Friday podcast, Hot Pods segment, and we’re gonna be taking a look at Episode 659 of The James Altucher Show. He had on Peter Diamandis, and they were talking about an abundance mindset. I have to say, Altucher’s got one of my favorite podcasts on the internet. He is a strange dude, but lovably strange. He’s a different kind of guy. Have you seen the documentary on him, I think it’s on Amazon Prime, have you seen that?
No, I didn’t know there was one. He’s annoyed me for years, but he is a very eccentric, smart fellow.
Our Future Loop
He really is. Yeah, it’s worth checking out if you haven’t watched it yet. You would dig it. We’re gonna be talking about the power of the abundance mindset, and I think this is something that we could all use a little bit of right now. Diamandis is sort of a futurist, and he’s very positive. He has a newsletter I subscribe to called Our Future Loop.
Our Future Loop is an AI-generated news aggregator, and based on the topics or subjects you select, it finds only positive news stories about those subjects. It’s fantastic. I’ve chosen things like business and entrepreneurship and writing, and every day, I get a newsletter with all positive news. I love this idea of abundance mindset. So, we’re going to talk a little bit about three general categories of abundance mindset, around health, wealth, and energy. Now Jim, I know, based on some of the struggles you’ve had in 2020, you not only have an abundance mindset, but you’ve got a pretty positive one. What does abundance mindset mean to you?
Well, listen, I believe right now, at this point in our current time in the history of humanity, that we are about to go through one of the biggest fundamental societal mindset shifts in human history. I’m talking more than bubonic plague and 9/11 and World War Two. This pandemic is really going to change the way that people move forward in their lives, and I back that up, based upon my work. I do sales calls, talk to a lot of people every single day, and I talk to people who are no longer willing to live in a world where it’s about so much money and negativity. My opinion is people are moving to an abundance mindset. I’m totally, one thousand percent on board with this.
People are moving to wanting to have better experiences, not so much worried about money, and you know why, at the end of the day, it really comes down to it. After 9/11, after the financial crisis of 2008, after the pandemic, people say, you know what, the world could end any day. Yes, like, this could be over.
For me personally, I was diagnosed with colon cancer this year. Eight hour surgery, I’m in chemotherapy now. Between the pandemic, a tree falling on my house, and the diagnosis of cancer, this year has been quite a bit of a mindset shift for me, as you can imagine. Now, I had already been moving into that abundance mindset before cancer, before pandemic. I’m 50 years old, so in that age group, maybe it was a midlife crisis, whatever, but I’m seeing it. So, the long winded answer is I one thousand percent agree with where this is going.
The Next Step
I’m right with you. We’re the same age, and I did not have a diagnosis this year, but I also, like you, or early even before the pandemic, I was really starting to think hard about what I wanted to do next. That’s why RevolutionFI exists because this is what I want to do next. I think the other part of the abundance mindset is that despite the pandemic and everything we’re going through right now, we still live in the most prosperous and safest times in the history of the world, and I think that gets lost on a lot of people.
Yeah, that is very true, you’re absolutely right. The second part of that is getting lost because if you talk to any psychologist, psychiatrist, and neuroscientist, we’re all in this fog right now because our lives have been disrupted. We just don’t know where we’re going to come out of it. There’s so much indecision, you know, election issues, politics, health issues.
Everybody is just struggling right now, kids, adults, everybody’s just trying to figure out the next three to five years. By the time we’re out of that, we’re going to know who we are as a society. That’s going to be shaped differently to different countries and all that stuff, but I really think we’re gonna see a big shift and how people move forward with their lives moving forward.
One of the great things about what you’re doing, Tim, is you’re actually taking action on it. You are actually going out and doing what you want to do, which is why anyone who’s listening to this should be working with you, because you’re an action taker, and you’re somebody who’s actually moving forward with it. You’re never going to move forward or make those shifts happen just thinking about things you need to really do and abundance, like creating podcasts like this, and creating content that helps people is how you get it done.
Yes. Amen to that, and you’re the same way. You’re a man of action, not talk. We said earlier this week that you’re probably going to strike out 99 times out of 100, but you only need one good swing to set yourself up for a long time.
Well, where are you at this point in your life right now? I mean, for me, I’ve been doing this for a long time, but maybe you haven’t, maybe you’ve had a job for the last 30 years, and you’re like, boy, this pandemic really hit me. Maybe you got furloughed, or maybe you’re just like, I’m sick of this job, and I don’t care that I make 150 grand anymore. I’m happy making half of that, as long as I was creating some type of life with social impact, and its significance for me and my family and being a better person and a dad, like, maybe that’s where you’re at now. I think a lot of people are moving to that.
I do, too.
Creating the Abundance Mindset
That’s what this is about. So, how do you create that abundance mindset? I always like to tell people, one of the very first things you can start doing with creating that is something very, very simple. I want you to go through the line at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts or McDonald’s tomorrow, and I want you to pay for the person behind. Just do it. So it costs you eight bucks, whatever. Just the fact that you know you did it is the psychological mental change that is going to have you thinking about being abundant, bringing an abundance out your life moving forward. Just take one small, simple little action. Try it tomorrow.
Have you ever been the recipient of that?
I have too. Is that not the most amazing feeling in the world?
Now, I will say the one time, the person did it for me, and then I was going to pay for the person behind me, and they were like, yeah, it’s a $58 order. I was like, Okay, I’m obviously not buying doughnuts for their office today, but I have done it before.
Yes. That’s fantastic. It’s a great tip. I hope people do that, so if you’re going out for coffee tomorrow morning or Sunday morning, pay for the person behind you. Alright. If you are enjoying RevolutionFI and you know how to leave a review on iTunes, I hear it helps. Please consider doing that, I’d really appreciate it. We’ll be back tomorrow. We have a couple weekend reflections. Jim, everybody’s working for the weekend. That’s what I heard Loverboy saying, is that true?
Yes, they are. If I had my ukulele in front of me, I’d play that for you.
Alright, so Mike Reno Loverboy says everyone’s working for the weekend, including us. We’ll see you back here tomorrow morning.
